Last night we looked up, “When should I go see my doctor when I’m pregnant?” We’ve decided to wait until the beginning of November–which will be at about week 7 or 8, before we go see my wife’s OB. Partly because there’s no point in going earlier, since they can’t see anything really on sonogram, and partly because my wife may be changing her insurance group in order to go to a better hospital, and choose a better OB-GYN. She’s not thrilled about the one she currently has, and she got some recommendations from friends who work at hospitals of better OB-GYNs.
My wife has been researching hospitals in our area — Cesarean rates, breast feeding rates, in-room birthing, private rooms, dad visitation overnight, nurse to patient ratio, etc. She has the fortune of working in the medical field, so she knows exactly the kind of stuff to look up, and how to find it. I won’t lie– we’re very fortunate that she has access to that stuff. She also works with a breast feeding program at work, so I’m hoping we can get all sorts of free shwag, like breast feeding videos, breast pumps, etc. (Although she says we won’t get a free breast pump, I’m sure they’ll be able to recommend the best make/models to get.)
Random Question #1: Is it wrong if you get an erection watching a breast feeding video? Hmmm.
We’re also starting the OB-GYN search, as well as contacting hospitals to start doing tours of their birthing centers. I didn’t even know you could do that. I’m really curious to see if they try and woo you, like a Timeshare presentation. “If you listen to our spiel for 30 minutes, you’ll get two free jetski passes, or tickets to Danny Gans!”
I’m also researching information on Daddy Boot Camps, which are clinics they put on for men, to prepare men for fatherhood. Changing diapers, expectations, what’s to come, etc. I can’t wait to sign up.
Random Question #2: I wonder if Levi Johnson is this excited for Bristol Palin to give birth? Hmmm.
